Seventeen years has passed by in the blink of an eye. We think it sounds like forever, but it isn't. My daughter started her senior year this August and I wasn't quite ready for that to happen.
We raise our children hoping for their success and allowing for them to shoot for the moon, but that doesn't mean there isn't a twinge of wanting them to stay small forever. The first time they crawl, the first time they spend the night at a friend’s, the first time you send them out in the car by themselves are each milestones that we endure. Now the biggest milestone of all is coming soon, sending her off to college.
I have found that even though I am encouraging her to reach her potential, I am holding her back with my apron strings. (I tied them around her ankles when she was in peaceful sleep)
She is currently in the process of applying for colleges. Each one carefully selected by my daughter over the last year. We will be sending off the first application next month. Did she pick colleges within the state? No, she did not. Her preferred college is in the Northeast, we live in Oklahoma. The others are in East and the Northern part of the Midwest. NONE are close by.
I am trying to look at this as a chance for my husband and I to grow closer and be old married folk.
Welcome to my world as I move forward into the future, dragging my feet just a little.
